Whitman and Churchill are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Whitman Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Churchill Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Whitman comes in on five and Churchill on three.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Whitman ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Landon and snuck past 70-67. The win was all the more spectacular given Whitman's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while Landon is ranked 15th).
Whitman relied on the efforts of Hayden Walsh, who scored 21 points, and Thomas Farrell, who scored 27 points along with six rebounds. The game was Farrell's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Titian DeRosa, who scored six points along with nine assists.
Meanwhile, even though Wootton scored an imposing 57 points on Tuesday, Churchill still came out on top. Churchill skirted past Wootton 59-57. 59 seems to be a good number for Churchill as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
Whitman's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.7 points per game. As for Churchill, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Whitman came up short against Churchill in their previous meeting back in January, falling 60-54. Can Whitman avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
