After flying high against the Golden Valley Bulldogs last Monday, the Highland Scots came back down to earth. Highland was beaten by the Golden Hawks 84-31 on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Highland can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 618th, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 117th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Centennial to victory, but perhaps none more so than Michael Gutierrez, who scored 14 points along with seven steals. Gutierrez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rippen Gill, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Highland's defeat dropped their record down to 18-7. As for Centennial, they pushed their record up to 20-6 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home.
Highland will take on the Drillers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Bakersfield has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 13. As for Centennial, they will head out on the road to square off against the Patriots at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Liberty is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
