Hart is 0-10 against Montague since April of 2017 but things could change on Thursday. The Pirates will take on the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. The last three games Hart has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Things were looking good for Hart after they put the first run on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Mason County Central by a score of 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Pirates have lost by just one run.
Halen Boos was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Montague let Oakridge stack six runs on them in the fifth inning on Tuesday but luckily Montague prevailed anyway. The Wildcats came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eagles, sneaking past 9-8. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.
Cole Herremans made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.
Herremans wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Chase Kurtzhal, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one double. That double was Kurtzhal's first of the season. Cooper Bradley was another, earning two runs and one stolen base.
Montague hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in three consecutive games.
Montague now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Hart, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Hart has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Montague struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Hart might still be hurting after the 13-2 defeat they got from Montague in their previous matchup back in April of 2022. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
