Piedmont Classical has been on the road for two straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Leadership Academy Falcons at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Piedmont Classical will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 500th, while Leadership Academy is ranked 154th).
Last Friday, it was a hard-fought game, but Piedmont Classical had to settle for a 55-53 defeat against Bethany.
Despite their loss, Piedmont Classical saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Ge'Kayla Goins, who scored 19 points along with 6 steals and 5 assists, was perhaps the best of all. Goins scored a full 35.8% of Piedmont Classical's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamia Carter, who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Leadership Academy put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Cornerstone Charter with points to spare, taking the game 49-30. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 14 to 5 on the offensive boards, as Leadership Academy did.
Addy Guldberg was her usual excellent self, scoring 14 points along with 8 steals and 6 rebounds. Guldberg is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Brooke Swigert, who scored 11 points along with 6 steals.
Piedmont Classical's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Leadership Academy, they have yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 4-0 record.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Piedmont Classical have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Leadership Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29 per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
