The Cornerstone Christian Crusaders will challenge the Calvary Baptist Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Calvary Baptist will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Cornerstone Christian extended their winning streak to six on Friday. The Crusaders blew past Public Safety Academy 76-20. Given the Crusaders' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked first, while the Phoenix are ranked 40th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

A big part of Cornerstone Christian's win came down to the chemistry between Dylan Kelly and his top target Cooper Lewin. Kelly rushed for 139 yards and three scores while Lewin gained 227 total yards and seven touchdowns. What's more, Kelly racked up 165.2 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Matthew Huffman helped out on the ground, rushing for 80 yards.
One reason for the win was Cornerstone Christian's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 13 sacks. Mason Sanchez led the group effort, picking up five of those sacks all by himself. Joshua Aderhold is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as he's now posted at least one in each of the last eight games he's played dating back to last season. Lewin got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Cornerstone Christian, adding 16 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Lewin, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Calvary Baptist took their matchup on Thursday with ease, bagging a 54-6 victory over United Christian Academy. With the Cougars ahead 48-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Calvary Baptist's win came from a few key players Cornerstone Christian will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Devin DeBuono, who threw for 239 yards and five TDs on only 18 passes, and also punched in one rushing score. He didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made seven total tackles in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Dominic Neal helped DeBuono out on the ground, picking up 55 receiving yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 37 yards and one score.
Calvary Baptist didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. DeBuono and Chris Bacarela each grabbed an interception. Calvary Baptist got some further help from Elijah Gomez: he picked up two sacks and made eight total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Cornerstone Christian's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Calvary Baptist, their victory bumped their record up to 5-0.
Everything came up roses for Cornerstone Christian against Calvary Baptist in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 50-0 win. Do the Crusaders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
