The high school football season in Mississippi came to a close over the weekend. Madison Central was among the victors with a 24-17 win over Brandon in the 6A finals. That victory helped propel the Jaguars to the No. 1 ranking in the final Mississippi MaxPreps Top 25.
Madison Central landed at the No. 1 ranking by going 13-1 with the seven-point title win, allowing 183 points on the season while scoring 498. It was the Jaguars' first state title since 1999.
Jake Norris, a tight end, stepped in at quarterback after
Vic Sutton suffered a knee injury in the quarterfinals and threw for 124 yards, ran for 55 more with a passing and rushing score in the victory.
Deandre Pullen rushed for 148 yards while
Isaiah Spencer found the end zone for the Jags.
Led by Mississippi State Player of the Year Dante Dowdell, Picayune upset West Point for the 5A title. Dowdell ran for 149 yards and two scores.
