The Rio Rico Hawks lost against the Nogales Apaches back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Rio Rico took a serious blow against Nogales, falling 63-32. Rio Rico has not had much luck with Nogales recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Nogales' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Diego Ortega, who scored 25 points along with 5 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Ortega has scored at least 25% of Nogales' points. Another player making a difference was Andres Franco, who scored 11 points along with 7 assists and 7 rebounds.
Rio Rico's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Nogales, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-3.
Rio Rico will head out on the road to face off against Tucson High Magnet School at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Tucson High Magnet School's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Rio Rico has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road. Nogales will take on Douglas at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
