Gateway and Cape Coral are an even 2-2-2 against one another since February of 2023, but likely not for long. The Gateway Eagles will look to defend their home field on Monday against the Cape Coral Seahawks at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cape Coral will be up against a hot Gateway team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. Gateway put the hurt on Oasis with a sharp 15-5 victory on Friday.
Gateway got a great performance from Hunter Squire as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits. Squire has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Juan Carlos Lineras, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Miller, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Cape Coral had to endure a seven-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They were the clear victor by an 11-3 margin over East Lee County on Friday. The Seahawks not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 18th.
Moses Castellanos tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, Derek Hooker was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Cape Coral is undefeated when Hooker posts two or more runs, but 0-7 otherwise. Collin Thess was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles.
Cape Coral was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Lee County only posted a batting average of .160.
Gateway pushed their record up to 8-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cape Coral, their victory bumped their record up to 4-7.
Gateway might still be hurting after the 14-4 defeat they got from Cape Coral in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Gateway avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
