It was a good run, but Marianna unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell to the Maclay Marauders 76-70. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Marauders earlier this season, when they won 68-62.
Despite the loss, Marianna still got an impressive performance from Mason Mobley, who went 8 for 18 on his way to 21 points and five boards. Mobley has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Kenyon Holden was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.
Maclay got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Avery Coffin out in front who posted 13 points and five assists. The dominant performance gave Coffin a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Nash Beshears, who went 7 of 13 en route to 21 points.
Marianna's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-4. As for Maclay, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-13.
Marianna will take on Gadsden County on Wednesday. Marianna knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Gadsden County likes a good challenge. Maclay does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
