Basketball Recap: Lawrence Academy Comes Up Short

On Tuesday, the Lawrence Academy Warriors lost to the Rocky Mount Academy Eagles on the road by a 72-56 margin. The Warriors were down 55-35 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

When it comes to explaining why Lawrence Academy lost, don't look at Nike Wiggins. Despite the final result, he posted 23 points along with six boards and five steals. That was a full 41.1% of Lawrence Academy's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cade Oliver, who had nine points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Lawrence Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Hank Berry was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine boards for Rocky Mount Academy. Berry's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Wells, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Lawrence Academy and nudges their season record down to 2-6. As for Rocky Mount Academy, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lawrence Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Faith Christian at 7:30 p.m. on December 28th. Lawrence Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.8 points per game this season. As for Rocky Mount Academy, they will welcome Liberty Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Rocky Mount Academy has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 196 points over their last three matchups.
