Basketball Recap: Maddy Beatson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Hertford County

First Flight won the last time they faced Hertford County and things went their way on Tuesday too. The First Flight Nighthawks secured a 55-49 W over the Hertford County Bears. Given the Nighthawks' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 109th, while the Bears are ranked 340th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

First Flight got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Maddy Beatson out in front who posted 24 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Beatson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 20 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Abby Miles, who scored nine points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

First Flight smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 37 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Hertford County still got an impressive performance from Brooklynn White, who went 9 of 15 en route to 22 points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave White a new career-high in blocks (two). Karae' Alfred was another key player, putting up four points along with eight rebounds and four blocks.

First Flight's victory bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Hertford County, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

First Flight wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 47-19 win against Holmes on the 7th. As for Hertford County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 39-35 loss against Currituck County on the 5th.
