The Stillwater Pioneers extended their postseason success on Friday against the Choctaw Yellowjackets. They managed a 33-29 win over the Yellowjackets. The win was familiar territory for Stillwater who now have ten in a row.
Stillwater's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Holden Thompson, who rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown. Thompson hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Chance Acord, who threw for 135 yards and two touchdowns.
When it comes to explaining why Choctaw lost, one person who can't be blamed is Deshawn Smith. Despite the final result, he picked up 90 receiving yards, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of LT Simmons, who rushed for 90 yards and a touchdown.
Stillwater's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Choctaw, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-2.
Stillwater will face off against Muskogee at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The pair have allowed few points on average, (Muskogee: 17.1, Stillwater: 17.4) so any points scored will be well earned. Choctaw does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
