Basketball Recap: Lebron Hill's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hammond Morton over Michigan City

Hammond Morton lost against Michigan City back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Hammond Morton Governors took a 74-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Michigan City Wolves. While the Governors didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Wolves 18-14 in the first quarter.

Hammond Morton lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being LeBron Hill, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Hill a new career-high in assists (five). Another player making a difference was Jordan Nix, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 13 points and five assists.

Even though they lost, Hammond Morton was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Michigan City was led to victory by Taquerion Vanburen and Anthony Murphy. Vanburen went 10 of 16 en route to 22 points and six boards, while Murphy posted 14 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Vanburen is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Terrance Mccray, who earned eight points and six assists.

Hammond Morton has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points per game. As for Michigan City, they pushed their record up to 9-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Hammond Morton has already played their next contest, a 59-48 win against Hobart on the 31st. As for Michigan City, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 78-75 defeat against Portage on the 31st.
