The West Central Trojans will square off against the Culver Community Cavaliers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. West Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
West Central fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Pioneer on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 10-9. The Trojans haven't had much luck with the Panthers recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Tate Leman spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and eight unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Zane Wall and Connor Huber did some serious damage despite the final result: Wall went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Huber went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases and three runs. West Central is 4-2 when Huber posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Teagan Holle was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Culver Community). They never let Oregon-Davis get on the board and left with a 12-0 win on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Cavaliers as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Caleb McCuen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Jonas McCuen was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kyler Weiger, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double.
Culver Community's win bumped their record up to 4-12. As for West Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
Everything went West Central's way against Culver Community in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, as West Central made off with a 15-2 victory. Do the Trojans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cavaliers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
