The Newport Buffaloes scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They were the clear victor by a 51-28 margin over Covenant Christian Academy. That 51-28 margin sets a new team best for Newport this season.
Newport got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ruben Moreno out in front who scored 11 points along with five steals. Moreno is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Zachary Bellis was another key contributor, scoring six points along with ten rebounds.
Newport's win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3. As for Covenant Christian Academy, they bumped their record down to 1-6 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Newport won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Millersburg at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th. Hopefully Millersburg focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Saturday. Covenant Christian Academy will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Juniata Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
