Elias Culley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Kimball Essig was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Boston Williams was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maple Mountain). They were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over Skyline on Thursday. The Golden Eagles are really starting to get used to good results now that the team has won 16 straight.
Like Viewmont, Maple Mountain also got a great game from a two-way player: Jeremiah Hall. On the mound, Hall didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Sawyer Leifson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. At bat, Hall went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Leifson went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Reece Johnson and AJ Thomas did most of the damage at the plate: Johnson went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Thomas went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Thomas is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Hayden Hyatt, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Maple Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .469. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Skyline only posted a batting average of .105.
Maple Mountain's win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 26-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Viewmont, their record is now 20-10.
Viewmont came up short against Maple Mountain when the teams last played back in May of 2019, falling 7-3. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
