Desert Vista is on a four-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Flagstaff is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. Desert Vista got a great performance from Kason Webb as he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Webb has posted since back in April of 2025.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Benjamin Romaine, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Camden Honsa, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Desert Vista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sunnyside only posted a batting average of .222.
Flagstaff came out on top against Gilbert on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run sixth inning. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Tigers.
Tobyn Phillips was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Phillips was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Teyan Clerry and Jace Adams did most of the damage at the plate: Clerry went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI, while Adams went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Cullen Callander, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Desert Vista's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Flagstaff, their win bumped their record up to an identical 3-0.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Desert Vista hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Flagstaff struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
