If the Midway Green Wave were feeling good off their 73-40 takedown of the Coalfield Yellow Jackets on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Midway took a 66-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Monterey on Friday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Midway in their matchups with Monterey: they've now lost three in a row.
Monterey found their leader in underclassman Aiden Roberson-Barber, who scored 28 points. Those 28 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaxen Stephens, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Midway's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Monterey, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Midway's road trip will continue as they head out to face Anderson County at 10:00 a.m. on December 19th. Anderson County will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. Monterey will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Smith County at 6:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
