Softball Recap: Yulee Sets Scoring Season-High Against Raines

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Yulee). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Raines Vikings a 16-0 shutout on Thursday. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.

Yulee let Peyton Tharp and Ava Martyn run wild. Tharp scored four runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-4, while Martyn scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those four hits gave Tharp a new career-high. Ashlyn Soller also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

The win made it two in a row for Yulee and bumps their season record up to 10-7-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Raines, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-5.

Coming up, Yulee will head out on the road to take on Bishop Kenny at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Raines, they will challenge Ribault at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 20 runs per game on average), something the Vikings will no doubt try to take advantage of.
