The Pine Plains Bombers will head out on the road to face off against the Cairo-Durham Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Cairo-Durham took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Pine Plains, who comes in off a win.
Pine Plains is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Ellenville on Wednesday. The Bombers blew past the Blue Devils 12-1. The victory continues a trend for the Bombers in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won nine in a row.
Pine Plains got a massive performance out of Warren Lounsbury, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that Lounsbury has hit this season. Ryan Blass was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Cairo-Durham was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 16-3 to Coxsackie-Athens.
Jacob Young made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Searing-Burke, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Pine Plains picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-4. As for Cairo-Durham, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pine Plains has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cairo-Durham struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Pine Plains was able to grind out a solid victory over Cairo-Durham when the teams last played back in April of 2019, winning 7-2. Do the Bombers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
