Baseball Recap: Bloomington South Makes It Three in a Row on the Road

Bloomington South came out on top against Southport on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Panthers took their contest against the Cardinals 5-1. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won four in a row.

Bloomington South got a great performance from Collin Marcum as he struck out 11 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those 11 strikeouts gave Marcum a new career-high.

At the plate, Bloomington South let Drew Palileo and Jake McCammon run wild. Palileo went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while McCammon went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Palileo has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Giles, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

Bloomington South pushed their record up to 10-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Southport, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bloomington South will welcome Franklin Community at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 3.1, the Grizzly Cubs 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Southport, they will host Bloomington North at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
