The Edwards County Lions will face off against the Mt. Carmel Golden Aces at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Edwards County will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
On Wednesday, Edwards County narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Cisne 7-6. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Runnin' Lions: they've now won four in a row.
Edwards County's win was truly a team effort as eight different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Drew Roosevelt, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Roosevelt has posted since back in March. Dylan Prather was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, Mt. Carmel sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Flora on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Golden Aces.
Asher Coston made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Levi Banks was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was River Deisher, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.
Mt. Carmel's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-9. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Edwards County, their win bumped their record up to 16-4.
Edwards County was able to grind out a solid victory over Mt. Carmel when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 9-5. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Golden Aces have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
