Baseball Recap: Elko's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

Elko came out on top against Fernley on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Indians' pitcher stepped up to hand the Vaqueros an 8-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Indians have posted against the Vaqueros since May 5, 2023.

Toren Duke was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs. Elko is undefeated when Duke posts two or more runs, but 9-15 otherwise.

In other batting news, Coy Jones was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Javi Robles, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

With the win, Elko broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 14-15. As for Fernley, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-15-1.

As of now, neither Elko nor the Vaqueros have any future games scheduled.
