Basketball Game Preview: Merritt Island Christian Cougars vs. Calvary Chapel Academy Eagles

Merritt Island Christian has gone 7-0 against Calvary Chapel Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Merritt Island Christian Cougars will host the Calvary Chapel Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Merritt Island Christian was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 44-40 to Melbourne Central Catholic. The Cougars have struggled against the Hustlers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Merritt Island Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Trey Nevad, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 19 rebounds, and Connor Angstadt, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points. Nevad has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last six times he's played.

Even though they lost, Merritt Island Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Calvary Chapel Academy came into Tuesday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They snuck past Master's Academy with a 55-49 victory on Tuesday.

Calvary Chapel Academy's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-7. As for Merritt Island Christian, they now have a losing record at 5-6.

Merritt Island Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over Calvary Chapel Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, winning 47-38.
