Baltimore City Division I recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Southwestern, who took down 88th ranked Digital Harbor, 12-6.
Mergenthaler Vo-Tech was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to fifth in Baltimore City Division I. Earlier in the week, the Mustangs defeated the Mustangs 51-0.
Douglass's dynamic duo of Brandon Oliver and Michael Owens proved tough for Patterson to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Oliver threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns and Owens had 93 yards receiving. Maleek Williams helped Douglass' passing attack out by catching two balls for 53 yards.
Kelvin Sutton was the most productive running back in the league this week. In six carries, he ran for 79 yards as City College bested the Clippers. Tayshawn Mayo also contributed to the rushing game with 64 yards on the ground.
Douglass' Oliver and James Garrett have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Oliver has thrown for 815 yards this season, while Garrett, a 5-foot-8 receiver, has nine catches for 153 yards. Edmondson-Westside's Hakeem Holland leads the league in rushing yards with 318.
A big matchup in Baltimore City Division I this week will be when the Red Storm take on the Sabers. At the moment, Edmondson-Westside is in first, while Southwestern is in third.
Dunbar was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Mergenthaler Vo-Tech 51-0. The Poets came in at 20 in the state poll after placing at number 27 last week.
