Penn Cambria hasn't had much luck against Central recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Panthers will be playing at home against the Dragons at 4:30 p.m. Penn Cambria has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Penn Cambria is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Somerset, falling 15-4.
Preston Farabaugh was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Caden Gibbons, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Central waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Eagles. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by seven runs or more this season.
Mason Byler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two doubles and two RBI. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April.
In other pitching news, Central got a great performance from Mason Sparks as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jay Hoenstine, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Dilling, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Penn Cambria's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Central, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Penn Cambria has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
