The Lafayette Rams came tearing into Monday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 68-63 win over Jamestown. Given Lafayette's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while Jamestown is ranked 231st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Lafayette to victory were Asa Fehrenbach and Jarquez Garrett. Fehrenbach dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds, while Garrett scored 18 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Garrett is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Shamar Welsh, who scored 14 points.
Lafayette is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Jamestown, they now have a losing record at 7-8.
Lafayette will head out on the road to face off against Grafton at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Grafton will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak alive. Jamestown will take on New Kent at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully New Kent focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Friday.
