Baseball Game Preview: Woodlawn Cardinals vs. Cisne Runnin' Lions

Woodlawn and Cisne are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Cardinals will venture away from home to take on the Runnin' Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Woodlawn will be strutting in after a win while Cisne will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with nine defeats in a row, Woodlawn turned things around against Hamilton County on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Foxes with a sharp 10-0 victory. Considering the Cardinals' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

JW Morgan made a splash while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, earning two runs and two stolen bases.

In other batting news, Woodlawn let Gavin Mckinley and James Remer run wild. Mckinley got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, while Remer got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. That's the most RBI Mckinley has posted since back in March of 2024. Tyson Morgan also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Woodlawn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Cisne came up short against Waltonville on Wednesday, falling 12-2. The loss continues a trend for the Runnin' Lions in their meetings with the Spartans: they've now lost six in a row.

Cisne's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 4-7. As for Woodlawn, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-9.

Woodlawn couldn't quite get it done against Cisne in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 8-4. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
