Woodland Regional is a perfect 3-0 against Waterbury Career Academy since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Hawks will challenge the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. Woodland Regional will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Woodland Regional took on Kennedy on Friday. The Hawks' pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles an 18-0 shutout. Fans of the Hawks have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Caitlyn Braun made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella VanAlstyne, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three doubles. Another player making a difference was Ayla DeCrescenzo, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Woodland Regional kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 15 consecutive matches dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, Waterbury Career Academy made sure to put some runs up on the board against Crosby on Friday. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 23-14 margin over the Bulldogs. With that win, the Spartans brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Waterbury Career Academy got a massive performance out of Jenesys Soto, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave Soto a new career-high. Trinitey Sanchez also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Woodland Regional's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team's won by an average of 10.5 runs thus far. As for Waterbury Career Academy, their record is now 4-9.
Waterbury Career Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Woodland Regional hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .480. It's a different story for Waterbury Career Academy, though, as they've only averaged .226. Will they be able to contain Woodland Regional's hitters?
Everything went Woodland Regional's way against Waterbury Career Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Woodland Regional made off with a 15-1 win. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
