Softball Game Preview: Reed-Custer Comets vs. Clifton Central Comets

Reed-Custer has gone a perfect 7-0 against Clifton Central recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. Reed-Custer will take on Clifton Central at 4:30 p.m. Clifton Central took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Reed-Custer, who comes in off a win.

While Reed-Custer didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Lisle by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Comets.

Meanwhile, Clifton Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They fell 4-0 to Grant Park.

Emily Ponton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

Clifton Central's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Reed-Custer, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.

Reed-Custer was able to grind out a solid win over Clifton Central when the teams last played back in April of 2025, winning 7-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Reed-Custer since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
