The Bunker Hill Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Foard Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bunker Hill has three straight wins, Foard has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Bunker Hill not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 28, 2024. They were the clear victor by a 14-2 margin over West Caldwell. With that victory, the Bears brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

Braydon Marlowe made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kamden Bortz, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-4. He is becoming a predictor of Bunker Hill's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Corey Canipe, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Bunker Hill hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Caldwell struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, Foard lost a heartbreaker to St. Stephens when they met back in May of 2024, and they left with a heavy heart again on Thursday. Foard came up short against St. Stephens, falling 19-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Tigers have suffered since March 4, 2024.
Aiden Vogel was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-1. Jackson Dentel also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Foard's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Bunker Hill, their record now sits at 4-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bunker Hill has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Foard struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Bunker Hill skirted past Foard 3-2 in their previous meeting last Thursday. The rematch might be a little tougher for Bunker Hill since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
