Izzy Hernandez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs.
In other batting news, Olivia Cornelius- Mathis was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Brynlie Vantreese, who scored four runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Hillsboro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. They are 9-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Venus waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Yellowjackets as they made off with an 8-1 victory.
Hillsboro pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Venus, their record now sits at 12-3-1.
