It was a good run, but the Hamilton Heights Huskies unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 63-44 bruising from West Lafayette. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Hamilton Heights came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while West Lafayette is ranked 95th).
When it comes to explaining why Hamilton Heights lost, one person who can't be blamed is Camryn Runner. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points along with three steals. Runner scored a full 43.2% of Hamilton Heights' points, the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hadleigh Cherry, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds.
Adrianne Tolen continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for West Lafayette, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. The matchup was Tolen's 15th in a row with at least ten points. Sarah Werth was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven assists.
Hamilton Heights' loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-2. As for West Lafayette, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-6.
Hamilton Heights will head out on the road to face off against Clinton Prairie at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Clinton Prairie is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. West Lafayette will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Frankfort at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
