Basketball Game Preview: Westside Christian Academy Eagles vs. Lake Ridge Academy Royals

The Westside Christian Academy Eagles will take on the Lake Ridge Academy Royals at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Westside Christian Academy has seven straight wins, Lake Ridge Academy has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Friday, Westside Christian Academy didn't have too much trouble with Horizon Science Academy as they won 69-52. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 344th, while the Dragons are ranked 772nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Westside Christian Academy found their leader in sophomore Calvin Cottenden, who almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine boards. Cottenden has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Trent Douglass was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.

Westside Christian Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Lake Ridge Academy was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 58-52 to Christian Community.

Westside Christian Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Lake Ridge Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.

Westside Christian Academy beat Lake Ridge Academy 60-48 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Does Westside Christian Academy have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lake Ridge Academy turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
