The Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets can finally bid farewell to their four-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Monday. They breezed by Southeast Halifax on the road to the tune of 51-14. That 51-14 margin sets a new team best for Roanoke Rapids this season.
Shaniah Daniels was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 19 rebounds. The match was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Whitfield, who almost dropped a triple-double on nine points, ten rebounds, and 11 assists.
Southeast Halifax lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kemorriya Evans, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Janiyla Pierce, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Southeast Halifax struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Roanoke Rapids racked up 17 assists.
Roanoke Rapids' victory bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Southeast Halifax, they bumped their record down to 0-3 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Roanoke Rapids' road trip will continue as they head out to face Franklinton at 6:00 p.m. on December 12th. Franklinton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Roanoke Rapids in North Carolina (Franklinton is ranked 92nd, while Roanoke Rapids is ranked 400th). Southeast Halifax won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Northwest Halifax at 6:00 p.m. on December 5th. Northwest Halifax will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
