The Foothill Falcons will venture away from home to face off against the Coronado Cougars at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Foothill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Southeast Career Tech hit Foothill with a four-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Falcons fell just short of the Roadrunners by a score of 6-5.
Quinthus Mason was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Jacob Lester was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Coronado faced Clark in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Cougars blew past the Chargers 13-0. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cougars considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Diego Pena looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Coronado got a massive performance out of Dawson Schmitt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave Schmitt a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Santiago Cocon, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Coronado kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive games.
Coronado is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Foothill, their loss dropped their record down to 16-10.
Foothill couldn't quite finish off Coronado when the teams last played back in April of 2025 and fell 11-9. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
