Lafayette is 0-4 against Lewisburg since April of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Lafayette Commodores will face off against the Lewisburg Patriots at 6:30 p.m. Lewisburg took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Lafayette, who comes in off a win.
Lafayette's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Independence as Lafayette made off with an 18-0 victory. The Commodores haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Sydney Cregar was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Lafayette let Mary Madison Kelley and Avery Lewis run wild. Kelley went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI, while Lewis scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most RBI Kelley has posted since back in March of 2024. Jenny Dreher was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, Lewisburg suffered their closest defeat since February 21, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of Madison Central by a score of 9-7. The loss was the Patriots' first of the season.
Anna Etter and Leona-Klaire Stokes stepped up to the plate in a big way. Etter scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Stokes scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. With that strong performance, Stokes is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikayla Johnson, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Having lost for the first time this season, Lewisburg fell to 3-1. As for Lafayette, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Lafayette came up short against Lewisburg in their previous meeting back in March of 2021, falling 5-1. Can Lafayette avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
