Brynn Connolly was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Carthan Connolly, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Rio Hondo Prep entered their tilt with La Quinta on Monday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Aztecs 10-1. The Kares might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.
BRYCE JOHNSON made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. JOHNSON was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
In other batting news, ALLIE SCOTT was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. LEAH RODRIGUEZ was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Rio Hondo Prep's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Polytechnic, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.
Rio Hondo Prep's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Polytechnic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Rio Hondo Prep, though, as they've been averaging only 4 strikeouts. Will Polytechnic keep running through batters, or will the Kares buck the trend?
Polytechnic beat Rio Hondo Prep 5-0 in their previous matchup back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
