On Friday, the Nitro Wildcats faced the St. Albans Red Dragons in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Nitro put the hurt on St. Albans with a sharp 58-37 victory. Nitro's win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Nitro to victory, but perhaps none more so than Timmy Lovejoy, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Lovejoy scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Lowe, who scored 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Nitro's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. As for St. Albans, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nitro will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Logan at 7:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024. Logan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 27th, while Nitro is ranked fourth). St. Albans will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Capital at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
