The Greencastle Tiger Cubs will take on the Parke Heritage Wolves at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Greencastle's hitters haven't had much luck over their past four contests, but Tuesday's match will give them a chance to turn things around.
Greencastle is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They skirted past South Vermillion 2-1. The victory continues a trend for the Tiger Cubs in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.
Ali Hassler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Greencastle secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Kyler Rumley, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI. Marley Stokes also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Parke Heritage not only won last Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 26th (when they won 15-2). They were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over Fountain Central. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolves.
Aerianna Desmith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had over her last six games. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs.
In other batting news, Birkley Schelsky was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Taya Sturmer, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Parke Heritage always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fountain Central only posted an OBP of .300.
Greencastle's record now sits at 8-13. As for Parke Heritage, their record is now 8-16.
Greencastle took their victory against Parke Heritage in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 6-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tiger Cubs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
