It was a good run, but The Swainsboro Tigers unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Friday. They and Bleckley County were almost perfectly matched up, but Swainsboro suffered an agonizing 21-20 defeat. Swainsboro was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Bleckley County apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Demello Jones, who rushed for 177 yards while picking up 10.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 72 yards and a touchdown on only four passes. Jordon Williams also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Bleckley County found their leader in underclassman Joshua Stanley, who rushed for 159 yards while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Stanley's longest rush was for an incredible 72 yards. Another player making a difference was Kam'ryn Everett, who threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns.
Swainsboro's loss dropped their record down to 8-1. As for Bleckley County, their win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Swainsboro will take on Dublin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Dublin is ranked 131st, while Swainsboro is ranked 111th). Bleckley County will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Claxton at 7:30 p.m. on November 10th.
