Warsaw has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against the Versailles Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Warsaw will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings (they are ranked 499th, while the Tigers are ranked 48th).
Last Thursday, Warsaw was beaten by the Bulldogs 68-41. Warsaw was down 56-27 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite their defeat, Warsaw saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Logan Gemes, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Shane Poyser, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, even though St. Paul Lutheran scored an imposing 74 points on Tuesday, Versailles still came out on top. Versailles secured a 80-74 W over the Saints. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Versailles.
Ryder Williams continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 33 points along with two steals. Williams is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 26 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Albrecht, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Warsaw dropped their record down to 3-16 with that loss, which was their eighth straight at home. As for Versailles, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Warsaw have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Versailles struggles in that department as they've been averaging 39.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Warsaw was taken down by the Tigers 86-49 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Warsaw, Trace Murdock (who scored 15 points along with three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
