Despite the defeat, River Valley saw an underclassman step up: Braden Bennett scored 14 points along with nine rebounds. The match was Bennett's third in a row with at least ten points. William Childress was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
Wellston's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for River Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Wellston will finish 2023 at home by hosting Southeastern at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Southeastern focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Saturday. River Valley will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Oak Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Oak Hill is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
