East Surry is 7-1 against Surry Central since August of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The East Surry Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Surry Central Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. East Surry is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.
Last Friday, East Surry took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 58-7 win over North Wilkes. With East Surry ahead 50-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Matthew Edwards went supernova for East Surry, rushing for 185 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries. Edwards' longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Stephen Keener did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 136 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, even though Forbush scored an imposing 34 points on Friday, Surry Central still came out on top. Surry Central enjoyed a cozy 48-34 win over Forbush.
East Surry's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 North Wilkes and 2-7 South Stokes (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 32.2% over those games). As for Surry Central, their win on Friday bumped their record up to 3-5.
Everything came up roses for East Surry against Surry Central in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 55-0 win. Will East Surry repeat their success, or does Surry Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
