Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school basketball. The tradition continues to close out the 2024-25 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Drew Timmons of
Archbishop Hannan (Covington) is the 2024-25 Louisiana MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 6-foot-6 senior forward led the Hawks to a 27-6 record and their second Division III Select state championship since 2022.
For the season, Timmons averaged 21.6 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest. He shot 62.2 percent from the field and 71.2 percent from the free throw line.
In a 59-55 victory over Archbishop Shaw (Marrero) in the state championship game, Timmons scored a game-high 22 points while shooting 10 of 16 from the field.
Over the course of his four-year career, he piled up over 2,800 points and 1,400 rebounds while earning district most valuable player honors in 2022, 2023 and 2025.
Following an impressive junior campaign that saw him average 22.4 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.4 steals per outing, Timmons signed with Navy over offers from Bryant, Louisiana-Monroe and Southern Miss.
