LEE hasn't had much luck against Johnson recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The LEE Volunteers will head out to take on the Johnson Jaguars at 12:30 p.m. LEE is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.3 points per game this season.
Last Wednesday, LEE came up short against Reagan and fell 60-51.
LEE might have lost, but man, Rosanelly Pastrano was a machine: she posted 24 points and four steals. That was a full 47.1% of LEE's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nena Alvarado, who posted nine points and five rebounds.
Even though they lost, LEE smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Johnson had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Mavericks 57-19. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Mavericks are ranked 919th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Johnson's win came from a few key players LEE will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mackenzie Donald, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 14 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sara Mcfarlin, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 12 points and three steals.
Johnson is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.9 points per game. As for LEE, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-8.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: LEE has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 33.5 boards per game. However, it's not like Johnson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.9 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
LEE skirted past Johnson 57-55 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Does LEE have another victory up their sleeve, or will Johnson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
