Baseball Recap: Rocky Mountain Lutheran Snags Third Win in Last Four Games

It was a Battle of the Birds when Rocky Mountain Lutheran faced off against Briggsdale on Monday. The Eagles never let the Falcons get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. Considering the Eagles have won five matchups by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Blake Harris made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Rocky Mountain Lutheran's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gavin Borchardt, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aidan Maurer, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Rocky Mountain Lutheran always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Rocky Mountain Lutheran has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Briggsdale, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6-1.

Looking ahead, Rocky Mountain Lutheran will take on Dayspring Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dayspring Christian Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Rocky Mountain Lutheran's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Briggsdale, they will host Prairie at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season.
