Highland's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against Campo Verde as Highland made off with a 14-0 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hawks considering their two-run performance the contest before.
Cambria Chacon tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Abbie Shellabarger was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Easton Joslin, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Highland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Campo Verde only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, Queen Creek waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Pumas by a score of 6-3.
Aubrey Chavez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Queen Creek got a big performance out of Charli Dixon, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. Emma Reynolds was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Queen Creek pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Highland, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Highland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like Queen Creek struggles in that department as they've averaged .360. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
