Hernando is 7-1 against Lecanto since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Hernando Leopards will venture away from home to face off against the Lecanto Panthers at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Hernando will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Fivay on Thursday. Hernando blew past Fivay 15-1. Considering the Leopards have won five matchups by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Lily Jernigan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Jernigan was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one double. That double marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, Hernando got a massive performance out of Aubrey Knierim, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Knierim also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Mya Smith was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-2.
Hernando was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Lecanto not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since February 18th. Everything went their way against Central as Lecanto made off with a 10-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.
Abigail Males made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Shawna Griffin was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Justeen Wilson, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.
Hernando's record is now 5-3. As for Lecanto, their record now sits at 4-6.
Hernando was able to grind out a solid win over Lecanto in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hernando since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
