Glacier is a perfect 10-0 against Flathead since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wolfpack will challenge the Braves/Bravettes at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Glacier has eight straight wins, Flathead has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Glacier is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Montana's top teams: Polson, who was ranked 15th at the time (Glacier was ranked fifth). The Wolfpack blew past the Pirates 15-5 on Tuesday. The Wolfpack might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by ten runs or more this season.
Olivia Warriner made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Nakiah Persinger was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. Cazz Rankosky was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Glacier always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Polson only posted an OBP of .379.
Flathead couldn't beat Butte on Saturday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fourth inning. The Braves/Bravettes lost 15-4 to the Bulldogs.
Flathead saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Danica Hennell, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Glacier's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Flathead, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.
Flathead's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Glacier has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Flathead, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Glacier keep running through batters, or will the Braves/Bravettes buck the trend?
Everything went Glacier's way against Flathead in their previous meeting two weeks ago, as Glacier made off with a 15-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolfpack since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
